What is Grunge?

Grunge is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, particularly in Seattle, in the mid-1980s. It is characterized by its heavy use of distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often combined with punk rock. Lyrically, Grunge often deals with apathy, alienation, and social critique.

Grunge fashion emerged as a response to the excess and superficiality of the 1980s fashion, it is characterized by its casual, comfortable, and often DIY style. It's often associated with ripped jeans, flannel shirts, ripped t-shirts, and band t-shirts, leather jackets, and Dr. Martens boots.

Grunge became a cultural phenomenon in the early 1990s, with bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains becoming hugely popular, and the fashion style being widely adopted by young people all over the world.
